Counting Cells in a Range using Count Function

When using Excel, it’s often beneficial to know how many cells that contain data there are using-count-function-in-excelin a range.  A real easy to work this out is using the COUNT function in Excel.  Using the example opposite, you will see that cells B2 to B9 contain various numbers.  So to work out the COUNT, click in B10 and type

=COUNT(B2:B9)

Cell B10 contains the result of using COUNT, which is eight.  Using the COUNT function counts the number of cells in that (see the green circle) range that contain date.  If one of those cells was empty, then the answer would be 7.
